As a specialist in commercial still-life photography, I view simple items as marvels of design and purpose. Each project is a unique work, and I try to convey thoughtfulness behind the shot. It is not a genre for all, but what I like about still life is the control I have over how I want things to look. I view my camera as a pencil and light as my eraser. I get rid of things I don’t need, and my signature style is characterized by dark backgrounds and dramatic highlights.I originally hail from South Korea, and there is an Asian aesthetic to my work. It is quiet, bold, yet shows consideration for the pure properties of the object. Sometimes it takes me days to think about how to light something, but I feel it is part of the natural process to bring out inherent beauty in the ordinary.
Light has infinite possibility, and my art is in selecting and editing until it is in harmony with the object of my attention.
